Recently I started feeling quite bad about my YouTube channel. I really feel that my patterns and shapes visuals are unique and yet I couldn’t find people should would connect with my work. Just a few weeks ago I had 20 subscribers. No I have 760.
What happened was I paid youtube to promote two of my shorts. To be clear – I didn’t pay for subscribers, I paid for views and people subscribed by their own free will.
The promotion went better than expected. I picked up some countries where people may like patterns due to their cultural heritage and two of those yeld especially good results – on average a subscriber cost me 1.4p so I just focused on those two countries so at the end it turned out very cheap.
And then, after the promotion ended I published a new short. And it got… 13 views! 13! That’s my worst result since I opened the channel! I can’t quite explain it. And there was nothing wrong with this short – it had cute colours and the same movement as usual.
Maybe my new subscribers didn’t watch this short so YouTube decided it’s of poor quality and it stopped showing it. But then why did they subscribe? Or maybe the algorithm was hoping I would promote this post too.
So I’m not very happy with the final results of the promotion and I again start feeling as if I’m in the wrong side of weird.
