I love English idioms

I just received an email from one of the self improvement gurus that I somehow didn’t unsubscribe from yet. All this talk about how we can have everything that we want is not really for me, although I do admit that sometimes a little bit of effort can improve our quality of life a lot.

Anyway, I still read the entire email (I was curious, I suppose) and it was about a client of his who improved their relationship so dramatically that it ‘went through the roof’ – I never seen this idiom being used like that and I’d bet language specialist may not like it. But you know what it made me think? Even though that I knew very well what was meant by that?

If their relationship went through the roof that means they need a bigger house. Simple, isn’t it?
